Frequently Asked Questions

After you schedule your first appointment, you will receive a confirmation email as well as an intake form to fill out through Massage Book (our scheduling system). We suggest arriving 10 minutes prior to your scheduled time so you can spend the full hour on the massage table. We do not have a front desk associate, so if you don’t see your therapist right away, please take a seat and they will be with you soon. Once you meet your therapist, they will guide you to the room you will be using. You and your therapist will have a brief chat about the reason for your visit and your goals for your treatment. After this conversation, your therapist will leave the room while you undress to your comfort level and get under the sheets. Your treatment will be tailored to your needs and your therapist may incorporate cupping, hot stones, neuromuscular therapy (involving passive and active movements), trigger point therapy, essential oils, and stretching. After your session, you will have a quick debriefing and your therapist will make suggestions for your next treatment.

We have two locations for your convenience:

Our north location is in the heart of Old Town Fort Collins at 148 W Oak St. It is a shared building, between Taj Mahal and Tasty Harmony. After entering the building through a short corridor, you will find our entrance at the first door on your left. We do share space with our partner providers Shaw Family Practice and Mountain Top Acupuncture, so you will see their names on our door as well.

Our south location is across from McKee Medical Center in Loveland at 1931 N Boise Ave. Come in the front door, take a quick left, and you’ll see a small reception area where you can wait for your therapist to come get you.

Our Loveland location has a parking lot in front of the building.

There is parking out front of our Fort Collins location, however parking is limited to two hours, Monday-Friday from 8am-6pm. There is also a parking garage located a few blocks north of us on the corner of Laporte Avenue and Mason Street. If you would prefer free parking with no time limit, there is free parking a few blocks west of us on Meldrum Street and a few blocks east of College on the north and west sides of the Old Town Library.

At Taproot Wellness & Bodywork we offer massage therapy as well as Ayurvedic wellness consultations and coaching programs. We share space with Shaw Family Practice, who provides Naturopathic and Chiropractic care; we also share space with Mountain Top Acupuncture offering acupuncture and craniosacral therapy.

It’s your massage and your body so it is up to you and your comfort level. Many of our clients undress fully, and some choose to keep their underwear on. If you choose to undress, you can be confident that our therapists will keep you professionally draped throughout your session.

If you choose to stay clothed, our therapists will be limited to compressions, stretching, trigger point therapy and some minor neuromuscular therapy, similar to a chair massage treatment.

We do include hot stones, cupping, and our own Ayurvedic essential oil blends free of charge during our sessions. We also offer customized essential oil treatments and CBD massage with a $10 upgrade.

While this is not required, our therapists  do appreciate the use of appropriate personal hygiene practices. Thank you!

We have all heard the expression, “no pain, no gain,” but when it comes to massage therapy, more pressure/pain is not always the answer. Your therapists will communicate with you throughout your massage about pressure and comfort. We want to find the point of therapeutic discomfort that is on the edge of being painful and we never want massage to hurt. One of the benefits of massage is calming the nervous system and if we are causing you pain, we would be sending your system into fight or flight mode rather than rest and digest mode. If you’re a person who loves really deep work, we do have a Deep Tissue session option and two therapists who are well-versed in deep tissue work.

One month to 100+. At Taproot Wellness & Bodywork we will work with any age. If we are working with a minor, we would do the intake with the minor as well as a parent. For minors 12 and under, we encourage parents to be in the room for the comfort of the child although this is not required. Parents may also stay onsite and wait in our cozy office space if the minor is okay without them in the room. We follow your lead.

Gratuity is never expected but always appreciated. You will find a gratuity guide in the room as well as at our front desk.

Yes it is! At both locations we have massage tables that  have removable inserts for your chest, belly and baby. Your belly and baby will be supported by an adjustable strap under the table (covered by padding and the sheet). When it is time to go from face down to face up, your therapist will help you sit up with a sheet covering you while the inserts are replaced and will guide you through turning over.

It is important to be honest about your health history because there are certain conditions that are contraindicated for massage therapy. If you have a local contraindication, your therapist will avoid that area. If you have a systemic contraindication (such as a blood clot), it is best to reschedule and communicate with your physician about receiving massage. Rescheduling your session is for your safety as well as our therapist’s.

If you have a fever and chills the day of your massage, we ask that you reschedule. This is for the wellbeing of yourself, our therapists and our clients. It is best to let your body’s immune system do its work. We will not charge a cancellation fee if you are ill, and we ask that you call to cancel as soon as possible so we have the opportunity to offer that reserved time to another client.

Each time a client misses an appointment without providing proper notice, another client is prevented the opportunity to receive care. Therefore, Taproot Wellness & Bodywork reserves the right to charge a fee of 50% of the session charge for each and every missed appointment (“no shows”) and appointments that, absent a compelling reason, are not canceled with 24-hour advanced notice. This fee may be waived if the client reschedules their missed service to take place within 48 hours. “No show” fees will be billed to the client. This fee is not covered by insurance and must be paid prior to your next appointment. Multiple “no shows” in any 12 month period may result in termination from our practice. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we strive to best serve the needs of all of our clients.

We do not bill insurance unless you have been in a motor vehicle accident and you have medical benefits (Medpay) with your auto insurance. We will bill your auto insurance directly for your care.

We do take HSA debit cards, however they don’t always work. If your HSA card is declined, we can accept another form of payment and give you a superbill to submit for reimbursement.

We are.. We have copies of the City of Fort Collins reimbursement form in both locations, and your therapist will be able to fill this out for you after your session.

We are usually unable to take walk-ins. Taproot Wellness & Bodywork is a small business with a smaller staff. We ask that you schedule your appointment 24 hours in advance. If you are in need of immediate service, please call or text us at 970-829-1292, and we can check the day’s availability. We do not have a front desk associate, if we don’t answer right away we are most likely with a client and we will call you back as soon as possible.

Taproot Wellness & Bodywork has a zero tolerance policy for any sexual harrasment behavior. This applies to all of our guests as well as employees. If you feel that you have been harassed by one of our employees, please report the incident to our owners (Shannon Allstott or Jamye Richardson). If a guest harasses one of our staff members, they will be asked to leave and will not be allowed to make any future appointments. Depending on the level of harassment, authorities may be contacted.
